Heart Surgery
CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS SURGERY (CABG): Dr. Shennib has 31 years experience performing coronary artery bypass surgery using different techniques which are suited to the condition of the patient, the strength of the heart and the target arteries that need to be bypassed. Constantly Dr. Shennib has had excellent outcomes and low complication rates which are better than the average national reported outcomes for bypass surgery. He pioneered the techniques of Off-Pump coronary artery bypass surgery, robotic assisted surgery and targeted minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass grafting or MIDCAB which relies on key hole incisions rather than mid line long bone cutting incisions to access the heart. He also is an expert in hybrid coronary artery surgery which is done combined with stenting to minimize the extent of open surgery.
AORTIC VALVE SURGERY: Dr. Shennib performs aortic valve surgery using different techniques and using different types of valves to suit the life styles and preferences of the patients. He has adopted techniques to repair rather then replace the valve when possible. He is a thought leader and has been on the advisory board of a company that pioneered the development of lesser invasive catheter based technique to replace the aortic valve. He has performed aortic valve surgery on elderly patients over 90 years of age successfully.
MITRAL and TRICUSPID VALVE SURGERY: The techniques of mitral valve surgery have changed significantly over the years and he has kept abreast with lesser invasive techniques and valve sparing repair techniques which avoid unnecessary mitral valve replacement when possible.
HIGH RISK OPEN HEART SURGERY: Surgeries for patients in need for simultaneous replacement and repair of multiple valves , redo valve or coronary surgeries, and surgeries for Jehovah's witnesses avoiding blood transfusions have been successfully performed and he has 30 years experience in performing such high risk patients.
In addition, PACE MAKER, DEFIBRILLATORS, LEAD PLACEMENT and EXTRACTIONS are routinely performed. Dr. Shennib's endovascular skills has been used to assist electrophysiolgist in obtaining venous access and transthoracic access in difficult patients.
